Kuto returns after visiting her hospitalised Afiance, kalo. She passed through the market to buy some greens for her mother for the evening dinner.
As she enters their compound, kuto sees her mother in the kitchen cooking. She rushes to hand over 'dodo' (greens)to her;
Kuto: Mammy! Do you really know that my poor boyfriend calls me honey? I wonder what he thinks of me. Am I sort of simple thing. If he wants honey, he better goes to the forest and hunt for it. I am not ready for that idiot!
Mother: My daughter, come here and sit with me. I want to tell you something you may not know about men. You see! When a man loves you, he tends to give you a special name to show how much he loves you. Names like, sweetheart, honey, baibe, to mention but a few, are basically names given to people we love most.
Kuto: Mam! Are you saying that little rat of mine loves me to that extent?
Mother: I may not know what he has for you in his heart but I believe he does. Give him chance and time. Let him prove himself worthy of your love. Don’t squeeze love out of man’s heart, let it come gradually and if it doesn’t, he may not be meant for you. It all takes little courage, time and patience my daughter!
Kuto: Let me hope so Mam. Men are like dogs, you may feed them very well but with time after satisfying their ego, they bite back the finger that feeds them. All they want is to use you and dump you like rubbish in the dustbine of lovers. Look at how Dad used to beat you?
Mother: My daughter, don’t become judgemental in this world. When it comes to relationship and marriage affairs, you don’t judge others especially people you love. Be kind in your heart and treat people the way you want to be treated. This is the most fundamental step to successful marriage and relationship.
You see with your Daddy! When his love for me overwhelms him. He becomes emotional and uncontrollable. Your Dad is wonderful man. He beats me to make me feel how much he loves me. You see my daughter. Sometimes, it’s good pinch someone to make them feel what you feel.
Kuto: Mam! I swear, I will never let any man lay his hands on me. I will retaliate with my mighty strength and crush him in to pieces.
Mother: it’s okay my daughter to get angry but don’t let your emotions control you and your actions. Be sober when dealing with relationship affairs. It is you and your future husband to build and grow your family empire together.
Mother continues: do you know what makes relationship beautiful?
My daughter listen to me while I am still a live. Things don’t come the way we expect. Marriage is not a bed of roses as people take it in their fantasy. It’s your temperament to overcome evil with good. They marriage you dream of today is hardwork of your efforts, hopes for the things unseen and faith in God. Pray without ceasing my daughter. Prayer pulls everything together. You will need to remember this when time comes.

Mother: Now go grab that jerrican and fetch some water for me before it gets late, my daughter!
Kuto: I will, thank you Mam.
Kuto rushes to fetch some water in near by Barhole.
